Canis Minor is one of the original 48 constellations named by Ptolemy in the second centruy. The constellation is part of the Orion family, and according to Greek myth depicts the smaller of Orion's 2 hunting dogs. Canis Minor also holds Luyten's Star, one of the closest stars to Earth.
